When winter is weird
12.20.08 (2:09 am)   [edit]
I live in San Francisco, CA. We have very moderate weather. I have friends who live in houses or apartments without any form of heat. While I would never rent an un-heatable residence, some do and manage with space heaters. I live in a very old building and I'm quite sure the original source of heat was the fireplace, in front of which I'm sitting. We have electric baseboard heat to supplement our warming needs. PG&E is pricey, these days. As preposterous as it might seem to people who live in cold climates like the one I was raised in, being cold in SF is way more painful than being cold in MI, my home state. We have crappy insulation, lots of windows etc. 40 outside is about 45 inside. As a rule, I turn my heat on when I can see my breath in my bedroom. Otherwise, I put a DuraLog in the fireplace and light it up. We may have another day of clear skies tomorrow. After that, there is another warmer rainstorm. Rain in CA in December equals snow in the eastern part of the country. I hope everyone can get where they want to go without too much danger. This is my first post in two years, I feel a bit odd about it.
